Event Date: Thu, 23 May 2019, 7.30pm
Venue: Esplanade Concert Hall
The Catholic High School Edward Becheras Choir is an all-boys SATB choir. The choir showcases male sopranos and altos, which are roles usually sung by female voices. Through months of rigorous practising of technique, the choir has honed the skill of singing in falsetto, creating a beautiful tone quality unique to male upper voices. As one of the most celebrated secondary school choirs, the choir is respected in the local choral community, having achieved numerous accolades over the years—including distinctions in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation for Choirs.
With a motto of “Pride, Passion, Performance”, the choir aims to bring out the true meaning in every song they sing, believing that they have an emotional message to convey beyond the notes. The choir has a diverse repertoire ranging from the classics to modern selections, providing choristers with exposure towards various styles of choral music.
The programme for the evening features classical works like Bruckner’s Ave Maria and whimsical favourite Da Coconut Nut. The choir also pays tribute to Asia with songs such as Suri Ram, Autumn Cicada and Pamugun.
