Description
Beethoven’ supreme skill and dramatic creativity are demonstrated again in Sonata In E Flat Major For Piano Op.27 No.1 completed in 1802. In part instigated by the onset of his deafness and rejection, Beethoven moved away from the traditional movement structure of the Sonata and titled each one Sonata Quasi una Fantasia (Sonata in the form of a fantasia). It is a more continuous whole, the changes of tempo and mood occurring within movements, and it has a more fluid approach to key, thematic development and form.
Written for Solo Piano, Op.27 No.1 is deceptively difficult, at first seeming playful and childish but becoming more formidable as it progresses.
